GT Paintball Series - Event 1 of 3 - June 5th, 2004

Reported by:
Andrew Saunders

Finally, a blistering hot day and with being surrounded by trees there was no wind either, good for paintball, bad for standing around. The field was grassy and devoid of rocks, only problem was one end would start at a lower elevation then the other. Reffing was at times hands-off and indecisive, players would manipulate the refs by yelling real loud.

The field layout kept most teams from losing players off the break. Most teams were aggressive once they had the numbers but there wasn't much bunkering. To whomever ran the canteen, stop burning everything! Here's an idea, it's high time we have a corn boil towards the end of the season.

Paintball goods for the rookies, cashmoney for novice, ain't nothin wrong with that. The prizes for novice were suprisingly large considering how many novice teams showed up. All in all this was a great event, everything ran smoothly, full 3000psi fills, only downside was the paint. And as usual with most (all?) GT events, free stuff thrown at the end.

  INFRASTRUCTURE  4 / 5
  SCHEDULING  4 / 5
  CATERING  3.5 / 5
  FIELDS  3.5 / 5
  MARSHALING  3 / 5
  ATMOSPHERE  4.5 / 5

One thing worth mentioning, this year there was some kind of draw to determine which teams would ref which event. First event would be Heavy Metal, second ECO and third Triple Image. Now with ECO winning this event and reffing the second one they will have 100/100 seed points going into the final event. Heavy Metal now has 50 seed points going into the second so it's still anyone's game in winning the secret grand prize.

Photos - Awards ceremony, Best pictures, Print quality photos (thanks to rison for hosting). I took bar-none the worst throat shots ever getting these...
