GT Paintball Series - Event 3 of 3 - August 7th, 2004

Goddamn rain. It had to happen at one of the events, till about 11am it just pounded. Good thing it stopped as the event would have probably started regardless come noon. The resulting texture was like quicksand in parts, oddly sticky and gelatinous. But with the ground sucking up most of the water it still kept it's traction.

Now for some reason there wasn't a novice level team reffing the event, don't know why. ECO proved that just because they are a good team doesn't make them good refs (don't get trashed the night before!) Instead there was just a mixture of available people, some good, some bad. There was some very sketchy calls, even after the fact (players with hits discovered after the flag pull don't get the points for it hint hint).

The prelims for novice were spread (201 points between 1st and 4th) but 4th place itself was decided by one single point. Spikes 5150 would be barely pushed out of the finals by Heavy Metal. ECO did well for Bryce not getting to play with his gun a few times. Plus Jeff MacDonald (ex-Miami Effect) was running all over the field which helped considerably.

The novice finals were entertaining however teams seemed more cautious this event. Most teams didn't take the ground and were prone to gunfights for most of the game. In rookie Team Johnnys won all their games only dropping two the whole day.

In the end there was a corn boil (wonder where that idea came from?) Again rookie received goods like a pimpass baby blue jumpsuit and novice received cash. And like all draxxus events this summer it ended with a booty toss.

And now with the series over ECO takes the novice division with a perfect 150 points. The reward was a paint sponsorship from Draxxus. And the rookie division received a prize too. BOA was leading after the first two events but decided not to play the third so Bunker Monkeys took the rookie division.

On a personal note I borrowed a DM4 for this event and it has to be the best gun going right now. Chronoed every time between 286-292 and never broke a ball the whole day (thats with field blaze even). If I could so much as see anybody anywhere on the field I would just blast em, the grouping is so small and with almost not recoil/jumping walking the trigger is sick. The gun doesn't make the player but it sure as hell made my day.

Shortly after the event Jeff MacDonald and Bryce Coady (ECO) were given tryouts for Shockwave and were both picked up by the team. Congrats.
